3rd Principal's Letter 2017

20 February 2017

Dear Parents/Guardian

Total Defence Day (TDD) on 15 February marks the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in
1942. Singapore has remained safe and peaceful over the last 51 years because of the
effort of all Singaporeans. This is essentially Total Defence. This annual event reminds us
that the task of building and defending a nation is not easy, and that we must continue to
work together to preserve our security, stability and prosperity.

The TDD 2017 theme – Together We Keep Singapore Strong is a reaffirmation of the role
and contributions of all Singaporeans, united through common Total Defence experiences.
We are able to enjoy what we have in Singapore because each of us has played a part, in
building this nation, our home.

Through various class activities and the assembly programmes carried out over the course

Appointment of Vice-Principal
ACS(J) welcomed our new Vice-Principal (Administration), Mr Tony Tan Sek Liang, who was
posted to the school with effect from 1 February 2017. LTC Tan served in the Singapore
Navy for the past 26 years as a Naval Combat Officer. He is a member of Adam Road
Presbyterian Church and is married with three children. We warmly welcome him to ACS
Junior and the ACS family of schools.

Gracious Students Book
All P1 - P3 students would have received a book, Gracious Students, written by one of our
alumni, Kevin Foo and donated by Mr and Mrs Christopher Chan. The book focuses on
graciousness and has many illustrations demonstrating the correct behaviour in school, at
home and in the public. Manners have to be taught and demonstrated - this book is a very
useful tool to help educate our children and grow them into young gentlemen.
